Fzzle Magazine

Fzzle is an independent magazine that creates a platform showcasing emerging creatives while transcending mainstream boundaries.

The brand identity aims to echo the raw and unfiltered energy of vintage Japanese streetwear brands, such as Hysteric Glamour, which it is inspired by. For every issue, the spotlight featured creative will create a logo based on the OG logo skeleton, so the covers also grow and morph with the community Fzzle builds. Each logo will then be archived in the logo library, and used for events and merch.

Lines & Notes & Everything in Between

A publication consisting of five elements that explore different aspects of music association, including how our brains process sounds, music with memories, music with physical space, and why we still use physical objects of music in the digital age.

Through conducting interviews, I inspected how humans unknowingly connect through music and utilized book forms to reflect conceptual ideas, pushing the boundaries with what the form of a publication could be.

This project was one of the winners for the 2024 Communication Arts Typographics Annual and is showcased in the catalog.

Thinking Making Breaking
(team work)

I contributed to the development and design of the 2024 CalArts Graphic Design Annual Website as part of a small team of 7 designers. We creative directed, designed, and built the site from scratch.

While each team member participated in each phase, my primary focus was on coding and designing the Credits page. I coded the Designers page, Life page, and Credits page, and simultaneously, refined design elements to enhance responsiveness and optimize the user interface and experience (UI/UX). Additionally, in the final stage, I executed further adjustments to refine specific type treatments, ultimately enhancing the site's overall visual presentation.

Tears on My Pearled Ribbon

A contemporary type specimen for PP Eiko designed by Caio Kondo at Inaritype. The typeface is elegant with an edge to it, so the theme for the content is sad girl song lyrics. Everything in the specimen is glyph from the typeface, including the cloud illustrations, which shows how versatile Eiko is.

The book consists of five folded sheets that open up to be posters, and the binding allows the reader to rip off the pages to hang up the posters.

The Past is Here & Now

The publication delves into the Gen X Soft Club aesthetic, created by Gen-Zers by naming and romanticizing mundane aspects of the late 90s and early 2000s.

The book is broken up into two

parts: Part I introduces the aesthetic, and Part II investigates and critiques the virality and commodification of aesthetic trends, as well as Gen Z netizens’ tendency to recycle and remodel old trends, being nostalgic for something they never personally experienced. The typographic and color palette of the publication aimed to reflect the Gen X Soft Club aesthetic but not merely copy visuals from the time.
